Proposed new model of care

If you are wondering what the proposed model of care for Tasmania's new Youth Justice Facility looks like, take a few minutes out of your day to watch this video from the Department for Education, Children and Young People.

As Deputy Secretary Peter Whitcombe explains, the new model represents a major change in how Tasmania supports young people in the youth justice system, built on the recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry.

The Commission of Inquiry made it clear the Ashley Youth Detention Centre must be closed as soon as possible.

It is this new model that will replace it, and it is important the community has confidence that this work is being done well.

The draft Tasmanian Youth Justice Facility of Model of Care is now open for public comment.

It sets out how the therapeutic facility will operate, and the evidence it is based on.
